Sciences Po Rennes coordinates several outreach initiatives.
Building renovations (2022-2024)
Reducing our environmental footprint is a priority at Sciences Po Rennes. We have secured approximately €4 million in recovery plan funding to accomplish the following at the Rennes campus:
- thermal insulation improvements in offices, lecture halls and classrooms
- removal of the natural gas heating system
- connection to Rennes’ municipal heating network
Plans are also in place to renovate the library buildings in 2025.
The sustainable mobility plan
As of September 2022, the Jules Ferry station connects Sciences Po Rennes to the Rennes underground metro network. Likewise, the Transitions Campus in Caen is accessible by streetcar (stop: Quatrans).
Thanks to participatory budgeting, school staff will soon have a fleet of electric bicycles at their disposal for rental at the library.
We are actively engaged in promoting sustainable mobility at our campuses in Rennes and Caen and are exploring possibilities in international mobility.
The Two Tons workshop
How can we work together and individually to achieve climate goals?
The Two Tons workshop asks this question. Two tons is the necessary limit on greenhouse gas emissions per person, per year on average to remain within the 1.5°C margin established in current IPCC scenarios.
At the fall seminar in 2022, faculty and administrative staff at Sciences Po Rennes were invited to estimate their annual carbon footprint and find ways to reduce it.
Two tons workshops are also organized for second-year students.
